Every New Feature Added In Minecraft 1.20 Trails And Tales Update

May 23, 2023

The Minecraft developers decided to shake things up with the 1.20 update by keeping the features in the update a mystery at the last Minecraft Live. Needless to say, it caused quite a stir amongst the fanbase. But the reason behind it was a noble one - they didn't want to promise something they couldn't deliver, especially with the delays in the highly anticipated Caves and Cliffs update.

However, this new system of rolling out the update has won over the hearts of many fans because it has brought a ton of new content to the game. And when we say a ton, we mean it - it's hard to keep track of everything that's been added!

So, let's dive in and take a look at every single new feature that has been added in the 1.20 update. From new blocks and items to gameplay changes and bug fixes, there's something for everyone. It's like Christmas came early for Minecraft players!

Armor Trims

One of the coolest additions in the 1.20 update is Armor Trims! It was a move that no one saw coming, but the Mojang developers have outdone themselves with this insane level of customization for armor pieces in the game.

This new feature allows players to create custom armor pieces like the one you see in the image below. The armor trim items can be found as loot across the game, and each trim gives the armor a distinctive design. You can change the trim color, mix and match different trims, and create some seriously exciting new armors.

It's a feature that nobody was asking for, but now that it's here, it's been welcomed with open arms. Who doesn't love being able to add a personal touch to their gear in a game like Minecraft?

Netherite Just Got More Expensive

If you thought obtaining Netherite was tough before, then I don't know what to tell you because it just got even harder! You can't just take a diamond tool or armor piece and slap a Netherite ingot onto it to make it a Netherite variant anymore. Nope, now you'll also need a very special item called the "Netherite Upgrade."

That's right, you'll need this extra item if you want to upgrade your tools. And to make things even trickier, the upgrade is only available as loot in Bastion remnants. So, if you're looking to get ahead in Minecraft, exploring these remnants is now an integral part of the game's progression.

But let's be real, who doesn't love a good challenge? The Minecraft community is no stranger to tough obstacles and grinding to get the best gear, so this update will surely be met with open arms by many players.

Hanging Signs

Hanging signs may have come out of the blue, but let's be real, who doesn't love a new block that can add some unique decoration to our builds? These hanging signs are just that, signs that can be hung from ceilings, walls, and even chains. Sure, they function similarly to normal signs, but the fact that they can be hung adds a whole new level of creativity to our Minecraft builds.

Sure, it may be a bit expensive to craft, but the end result is definitely worth it. Plus, with the addition of dual use for normal signs, we can now write on both sides and even wax it to make the sign permanent. It's these small details that make all the difference in creating a truly immersive and personalized Minecraft experience.

So, if you're looking to add some extra flair to your builds, give hanging signs a try. You may discover a new way to utilize this block that nobody has thought of yet.

Chiseled Bookshelves

Do you know what's cooler than a regular bookshelf? A chiseled one! That's right, the latest Minecraft update has finally introduced a feature that players have been asking for years.

Bookshelves have been around in the game for a while now, but they were essentially just decorative blocks that served no real purpose beyond being used to craft enchanting tables. With chiseled bookshelves, however, you can finally store your books and make your libraries look more functional.

The best part? Placing or removing a book from the chiseled bookshelf will now give off a redstone signal, which means you can create hidden passages or secret rooms behind your bookshelves. Talk about some serious spy movie vibes!

Some players have criticized this update, arguing that the functionality of storing books should have been added to the existing bookshelves rather than introducing a new block.

Camels

Ah, the camel - the ultimate ride of the desert. And now, it's coming to Minecraft! These humpbacked beauties can be found in desert villages, and they're not just for show. No, sir!

They can actually carry you and a friend, making for some epic adventures across the sandy plains. But that's not all - they also have a special dash feature that can help you avoid obstacles. And let's talk about their animations - they're just so darn cool!

Now, some may argue that Minecraft already has plenty of rideable animals - horses, donkeys, and even llamas. But, I mean, it's a camel! And in a game where you can build giant castles and fight off hordes of zombies, why not add a little spice with some desert-themed transportation?

Sniffer

The Sniffer is one of the fascinating new mobs added in the latest 1.20 update. It may sound strange that a mob's primary function is to sniff, but that's precisely what the Sniffer does best!

The Sniffer can detect a rare type of seed, which grows ancient flowers long extinct from the overworld. These ancient flowers were once abundant in the world, but now they can only be found through the help of the Sniffer.

Although finding these flowers is a small feat, you cannot obtain the Sniffer easily. It doesn't spawn in the wild; instead, it can only be hatched from a rare egg found in loot chests.

What makes the Sniffer even more exciting is that it's just the beginning of ancient mobs that will be added to the game. If rumors are to be believed, we can expect more exciting and unique creatures to be discovered and added in the future.

Ancient Plants

The sniffer is truly a unique addition to the 1.20 update! Not only does it add an element of mystery and intrigue to the game, but it also introduces the possibility of discovering long-lost ancient flowers.

The sniffer's nose is specifically attuned to two types of ancient seeds: the torchflower and the pitcher plant. While these flowers are purely decorative in nature, they are a true sight to behold.

Sure, some might argue that using them for dyes is a waste, as there are plenty of other flowers around that can be used for the same purpose. But isn't it more exciting to have something truly unique and rare in your possession? Plus, who knows what other uses these ancient flowers might have in the future.

Bamboo Blocks

Bamboo is one of those blocks that people tend to overlook. It's great for scaffolding, but building with it? Not so much. Well, that was before the 1.14 update. Now, you can craft a wood equivalent of bamboo and use it to build all sorts of things. The possibilities are endless!

Doors, trapdoors, stairs, slabs - you name it, you can make it with bamboo. And the best part? It's just like any other wood type. So, if you're a fan of using birch or oak in your builds, you can now add bamboo to the mix.

But that's not all. Bamboo also comes with its own family of blocks, just like every other wood type. There are bamboo planks, bamboo slabs, and even bamboo fences. It's like a whole new world of building has opened up!

Cherry Blossom

Cherry blossoms are finally here in Minecraft and are a sight to behold! It's amazing how well this biome fits in with the vanilla theme of the game. It should have been in the game all along.

One thing's for sure, this is the most peaceful place you'll find in the overworld. The developers have really outdone themselves with this biome. Not only does it feature beautiful pink trees, but it also has particle effects that add a whole new level of ambiance to the game. It's almost like you're in a dreamland.

But that's not all, my friend. The cherry blossom biome also features new blocks, such as pink wood and pink planks, which can be used to add a touch of elegance to your builds.

All in all, the cherry blossom biome is a great addition to the game. It's the perfect place to build your dream home, take a relaxing stroll, or just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Cherry Wood Blocks

Cherrywood is the new kid on the block, and it has made quite an entrance! The cherry wood blocks are a delightful addition to the game, just like the cherry blossom biome.

With the cherry wood blocks, players can now create an entire cherry-themed house, complete with cherry wood doors, cherry wood trapdoors, and cherry wood fences. And if you're feeling extra fancy, you can even add cherry wood slabs and stairs to the mix.

But what sets the cherry wood blocks apart from the rest of the wood family? For starters, the cherry wood has a unique reddish-pink hue, making it stand out from the other more common woods. Plus, it has its own distinct texture, making it a real treat to work with. And let's remember the satisfying sound of chopping down a cherry tree - it's music to our ears!

All in all, the cherry wood blocks are a fantastic addition to the game, providing players with more options for creativity and design

Trail Ruins

These underground structures are like little mazes of crumbling blocks, making you feel like a true explorer searching for treasure. And what sort of treasure, you ask? Well, that's where the excitement lies! You never know what you might find lurking in the nooks and crannies of these ancient ruins.

Some trails may lead you to a chest filled with valuable loot, while others may reveal secrets that require some paleontology skills. And let's not forget the thrill of exploring a new structure, filled with dangers and surprises at every turn.

One thing's for sure - these trails of ruin add a whole new layer of excitement and adventure to Minecraft.

Archeology

Archaeology is a fascinating new feature in Minecraft that ties in perfectly with the trail ruins. These ruins generate certain blocks that look "suspicious" compared to the existing ones, like suspicious sand.

When you come across these blocks, it's time to grab your brush and get to work doing some archaeological excavating. Gently brushing away the sand will reveal hidden loot, making it a must-try activity for any Minecraft adventurer.

Pottery

Pottery is a fascinating addition to the trail ruins feature, and it's an excellent way to uncover the secrets of a long-lost civilization. As you brush off the sand and discover the loot, you might find pottery shards that hint at the past. These shards hold a story that is just waiting to be unlocked. By combining the fragments with a pot, you can reveal what they're trying to tell you.

This feature brings much-needed lore to the Minecraft world, and it's a fantastic way to get players invested in the game's story. It's like being an archaeologist, piecing together the puzzle of what happened before you arrived. The pottery shards are a relic of a past civilization, and the stories they hold are just waiting to be discovered.

Calibrated Sculk Sensor

And here we have the grand finale of the 1.20 update: the illustrious Calibrated Sculk Sensor! This marvelous contraption is a refined version of the regular Sculk Sensor, bringing a whole new level of control to your redstone creations. With its calibrated capabilities, this sensor allows you to filter and select specific vibration frequencies to detect, all thanks to the power of a redstone signal input.

Gone are the days of indiscriminate vibrations! Now you can fine-tune your contraptions to respond only to the precise frequencies you desire. It's like giving your redstone creations a finely-tailored suit, ensuring they react to the right vibrations with utmost precision.

Wow, that was quite a list of features! The Mojang devs went all out this time around. With so many new features, I can't wait to get my hands on this update. Unfortunately, there isn't an official release date for the update yet, but signs are pointing to an imminent release.

The pre-release candidate 1 has already been released, so we can expect the 1.20 update to be officially released within the next month or so.
